Eta Psi Omega Chapter Celebrates Unveiling of Ivy League Reading Room and 116th Founders’ Day

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Eta Psi Omega Chapter gathered in celebration as they unveiled the Ivy League reading room at Ridgeland Primary School, marking not only the creation of a transformative educational space for young minds, but also the commemoration of the Sorority’s 116th Founders’ Day.





The Honourable Glenys Hanna Martin, Minister of Education & Technical & Vocational Training, graced the event with her inspiring presence, emphasising the importance of advancing education and acknowledging the value of organisations, like the Sorority, collaborating with public educational institutions. The Chapter extends its deepest appreciation for her support and commitment to educational progress.






Esteemed Principal, Samantha Anderson, was acknowledged for her tireless dedication to education and unwavering commitment to the principles of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated®, making her an invaluable asset to Ridgeland Primary School.


As part of the celebration, the Eta Psi Omega Chapter announced a purposeful partnership with Ridgeland Primary School, focusing on holistic student development and community engagement. Several initiatives were introduced:


  • Empowered Families Network: Throughout the year, the Chapter will host enrichment presentations during PTA meetings, addressing physical health, financial literacy, and mental wellness, recognizing empowered families as the cornerstone of a thriving community.

  • Child Hunger Initiative Power Pack: A programme designed to provide nutritious meals to students during weekends and breaks, ensuring that no child goes hungry.

  • Ivy League Readers Club: A club to engage members and community leaders, encouraging a love for reading among bright students and emphasising its importance for educational development.

  • Partnership with Ridgeland Primary Backyard Farming & Garden Project and Adult Literacy Programme: Collaborating with Principal Anderson on initiatives aligned with community development and lifelong learning.



The Eta Psi Omega Chapter President, Phylicia Ferguson, expressed, "Let us embrace the spirit of service, collaboration, and empowerment as we embark on this meaningful journey with Ridgeland Primary School. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of the students and their families."





Having recently celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Charter Anniversary, the Chapter also extended warm wishes for a Happy 116th Founders’ Day to all members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® and expressed enthusiasm for the beginning of a beautiful and worthwhile partnership with the bright students of Ridgeland Primary School.
